Germany gravity knife (Fallschirmjäger-Messer) manufactured by Paul Weyersberg & Co. of Solingen (TYPE I). Its distinctive features include a stainless steel blade marked "ROSTFREI" and a wooden handle. It is in very good condition with all springs fully functional. The blade has a full factory grind.

This weapon was designed in 1937 for the newly formed elite parachute units (Fallschirmjäger) and Luftwaffe bomber crews. The tool was created in response to a very specific technical problem: paratroopers landing (often in difficult terrain, such as in trees or water) needed a reliable knife that could be operated with one hand when the other was entangled in the lines or injured. The knife's primary function was to cut the lines of the parachute harness after the drop. For this reason, it was not originally designed as a combat weapon, but as a highly specialized rescue and engineering tool (although it was sometimes used as a handgun during the war and at close range).
