A perfectly preserved hewer of the DRK organization, carried by privates and non-commissioned officers. This hewer was designed for cutting thick materials, clothing, belts, and bandages on the wounded, for cutting wooden or plaster splints, and for preparing emergency stretchers (cutting branches, chopping wood). Officially, this item was not classified as a melee weapon, but as a working tool (Hewer / Hauer means a chopping cleaver).
Blade has full crossgrain, handle is intact and scabbard is original black pained. Marked under the crossguard Ges. Geschutz.
