Original German visor cap (German: Schirmmütze) of the NSDAP's local political leader (Ortsgruppenleitung). The color of the piping (Waffenfarbe) indicated the organizational structure. Light blue was assigned exclusively to the local group level - Ortsgruppe. Very good condition. Size 57. Label under the sweatband.

The cap shown here (pattern 1939) was created as a result of rigorous uniform standardization just before the outbreak of World War II. A precise system of colored piping (Waffenfarbe) was introduced at that time to instantly identify the hierarchy. Light blue on the cap denoted the lowest level (Ortsgruppe), closest to the citizen. Higher levels had different colored piping: red for the district (Gau), burgundy for the county (Kreis), and dark yellow for the national leadership (Reich). The political uniform, colloquially called the "golden pheasant robe" (Goldfasan) by Germans due to its brown and gold color scheme, was intended to command respect, represent the party's absolute authority over the state apparatus, and emphasize the elite status of NSDAP functionaries.
