A very well-preserved Schutzpolizei (National Police) EM/NCO’s M43 visor cap, constructed of classic Police-green wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped at the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front with two pebbled magnetic metal buttons which emanate from the right flap and meet an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of an elongated Police-green rayon hexagon bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Ordnungspolizei insignia, topped by a tri-colour cockade. The peak insignia measures 38 mm (w) x 52 mm (h). Completing the exterior features is a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor, fully lined in identical wool. A field-grey, multi-piece, cotton-blended liner encompasses the interior. Stamped onto the crown in black ink is a mark of “BAYER. MÜTZEN PAT. MÜNCHEN”, a manufacture date of “M/44”, and a Reichsbetriebsnummer (RBN) of “0/0850/0387” for the same maker. Also stamped onto the crown is a size mark of “57”. It measures approximately 210 mm (w) x 260 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). A small spot of soiling is visible to the lower left corner of the peak insignia, two small holes are evident to the right side of the interior liner along with a small spot of soiling to the crown, and the visor core demonstrates bending consistent with light wear but has not been cracked. The cap is in an overall extremely fine condition.
